Role brief

hrroles summary, based on the employer's posting.

What you'll do

  • Review the existing candidate pool and keep backup options ready for matching
  • Interview candidates, judge their readiness for clients, and prepare clear evaluation reports
  • Screen candidates in volume against set standards, checking their technical setup and reliability
  • Escalate uncertain screening decisions and pass Matchers complete, accurate candidate context
  • Coordinate with Sales, Support and Customer Success while meeting targets without losing accuracy

What you bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in any subject, or comparable work experience
  • Strong spoken and written English, with clear, organized communication
  • Careful attention to detail and a record of completing what you start
  • A dependable home setup with a computer, headset, video calls, quiet space and backup internet

Who this fits

This junior role suits someone who stays precise through repeated candidate conversations, recovers quickly from difficult calls and raises borderline cases rather than guessing. You must be available for an assigned Monday-to-Friday or Tuesday-to-Saturday shift, which may be day, evening or night, with advance notice of changes. The role requires a reliable home office and exclusive commitment, so you cannot continue freelancing as a VA or EA.

From the employer

About Magic

For over 10 years, Magic has connected top remote talent with fast-growing businesses — backed by Y Combinator and Sequoia Capital, with thousands of remote workers worldwide.

Role Overview

This role runs on two tracks — Matcher and Qualifier — and both exist because a bad match costs Magic a client.

Matcher: You're the final quality checkpoint before a candidate ever meets a client. Every client Magic serves depends on being matched with the right assistant, and that only happens because someone made a smart, well-informed call on readiness. That's you. Get it right, and clients stay.
Qualifier:
You're the first quality gate — the one deciding, at volume and without cutting corners, whether a candidate is even ready to be considered. Your accuracy under volume determines whether the Matchers downstream are working with a genuinely vetted pool or a noisy one.

Shift: full availability required, Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday, assigned by business need — night, evening, or day. Expect to feel overwhelmed in Month 1; that's normal. What separates people who make it is learning fast, resetting quickly, and asking good questions. Matcher
  • Search Magic's existing candidate pool and keep a backup list ready
  • Interview candidates — schedule and run final interviews, make the readiness call
  • Coordinate with Sales, Support, and Customer Success
  • Write client-ready evaluation reports
  • Hit daily and monthly targets without sacrificing accuracy

Qualifier
  • Screen candidates at volume against defined criteria — benchmark ~16/shift
  • Verify technical setup and reliability before candidates advance
  • Flag borderline calls instead of guessing
  • Hand off complete, accurate context to Matchers
  • Hold the line on process and documentation, even as volume climbs
  • Bachelor's degree (any field) or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent English — speaking, writing, structured communication
  • Strong attention to detail — your output directly shapes downstream hiring decisions
  • Full availability for assigned shifts, with advance notice for changes
  • Reliable home office: computer, headset, video conferencing setup, quiet environment, 25+ Mbps internet with backup
  • A track record of finishing what you start
  • Matcher: prior candidate-facing interviewing or recruitment experience preferred
  • Qualifier: prior high-volume screening, compliance review, or structured intake experience preferred

Why You'll Be a Great Fit

You bring the same energy to interview #16 that you brought to #1. You reset fast after a hard call or a mistake instead of carrying it into the next one. You take pride in precision over speed, and you flag the genuinely borderline case instead of guessing either direction.

This isn't the role if you need a fixed, self-selected schedule, if you run low on energy across back-to-back conversations, if days pass before you bounce back from a tough call, or if you're currently freelancing as a VA/EA and plan to keep those clients — exclusivity here is non-negotiable.

Application Process

Application + Pre-Qualifying Questions → Pre-Screen Typeform (~5–6 min) → AI-Assisted Resume & Typeform Review (every recommendation human-reviewed — nothing auto-declined) → Initial Interview with the Recruiting Team → 24-Hour Reflection Period → Hiring Manager Interview (practice assessment or screening exercise + career goals) → Final Interview with the Head of People Product → Background Check → Job Offer → 2-Week Training Program
